Is the explorer.exe process a virus, spyware or malware?

Process description:

Windows Explorer

Author: Microsoft
Part of: Windows
This process is a core part of the Windows operating system and is used to display the windows taskbar and icons etc. Terminating the process will not stop your computer from working, but you may lose GUI features (I.E desktop icons).

The process is always found in the C:\Windows folder and should not be found anywhere else. Some viruses disguise themselves using this process name so the process may present a security threat if not located in the C:\Windows folder.
