What is a process

A process is just like any other piece of software that runs on your computer, except that it probably doesnít have a visual appearance. For example, you may have a hidden process running right now that is connecting to the internet to make sure your computerís anti-virus software is up-to-date.

When you install a piece of software, it may install a process or a number of different processes. These processes are often used to help the software operate and are usually essential.

However because computer software is not regulated, software developers sometimes create processes that are not required, are not compatible with other software, have a hidden agenda or even contain malicious code.
